Local 417 was chartered on October 29th, 1927 by the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental & Reinforcing Iron Workers. The objective of this Union shall be to: (a) promote, by all proper means, the material and intellectual welfare of its members and their families, (b) secure, by all legal and proper means, adequate wages, working conditions and opportunities of employment, (c) encourage its members to register and vote in the interest of obtaining higher standards of citizenship and secure adequate legislation which will safeguard and promote the principles of free collective bargaining.
We have just under 400 members, and over 600 signatory contractors. Our jurisdiction includes the New York State Counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, and Ulster.
We are a mixed Local: our members perform all phases of Ironworking: structural, rebar, ornamental, reinforcing, and our apprentices are trained in every aspect. In the Hudson Valley, the typical projects are two to five story buildings, road and bridge work, fence, decking, curtain wall, security, windows, and rigging.
Our members are active in the community and have performed many hours of volunteer community service for a variety of organizations over the years.
